Amplify is All Noise, No Music

AP reports that a new collaborative content sharing service called Amplify is launching on Tuesday. Amplify enables users to find, collect, save and share content from multiple online sources in personalized pages called "Amps" that are grouped into communities. I don't know why AP doesn't just say Amplify is launching a proprietary weblog publishing platform, because that's what this sure looks like.

I am usually enthusiastic about new blog services and tools, but I predict this one will fail miserably, sorry. Here are three reasons why:

  • Amplify requires a proprietary toolbar to post content

  • Amps are downright ugly and non-user-friendly

  • Amps ignore all established weblog conventions, such as archives, permalinks, comments and trackbacks

Nice try, but no cigar.
